Stuart Silfen has almost 40 years of experience in negotiating, drafting and implementing all forms of music, publishing, recording and book publishing agreements. His clients over the years have run the gamut from successful independent record labels, classical music superstars, hip-hop rappers, pop stars, to theatrical leading ladies. They include Lang Lang, Norah Jones, KISS, Billy Idol, ZZ Top, Paul Anka, Mariah Carey, Donna Summer, Harry Chapin, Roberta Flack, Cindy Lauper, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Harry Connick, Jr., Branford Marsalis, Richie Sambora, Spike Lee, Jim Jarmusch, Public Enemy, 2 Live Crew, Audra McDonald, Sir James Galway, Jessye Norman, Philip Glass, Republic/Universal Records, Sony Records and composer/producer Ennio Morricone.
Mr. Silfen has also represented, and continues to represent many senior record company executives, successful authors and composers of musical compositions, and their affiliated music publishing companies. Mr. Silfen has spoken at the PLI program “Counseling Clients in the Entertainment Industry”; the New York Law Journal program’s “Negotiating Entertainment Agreements”; the American Bar Association’s “Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industry;” and at entertainment law programs at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, William & Mary Law School, Regent University, and Pace University Law School.
